By the wish of Angie

Zamanın ters, yarenliğin faydasız,
Her reisin bezgin ve her başın hasta,
Olduğunu görünce,
Evime kapanıp şerefimi korumayı kâr bildim.
Yanımda saklı duran ve avucumda ışıldayan,
Hikmet şarabından içerim.
Sofra arkadaşlarım mürekkep şişeleridir,
Sazım da onların şıkırtısıdır.
Bu arada dünyadan göçmüş,
Hikmet erbabının sohbetleriyle neşelenirim.

Translation:

When I see that
The time was amiss*, the gabfest was useless,
Every leader was haggard and every head was sick,
I noticed the benefit is in protecting my honour by cloistering at home.
I drink the wisdom drink which is near me and shines in my palm*
My table pals are ink bottles,
And my instrument* is their jingle.
By the way, I cheer up with the chat
Of the masters of wisdom who immigrated from this life*

  • amiss: wrong, not same as expected normal
  • palm of my hand
  • instrument as a musical instrument
  • immigrated from this life: people who dead

I am not sure about who wrote or told these lines, but I found a website, it says this poem is by Al-Farabi

Thank you very much!!!

Thank you very much!!!
